'WOW'

Over the summer holidays we were set a competition to enter for a local Reading design firm, Oculus. They were holding a competition called the 'WOW factor' to celebrate there 20th year in business. The brief was to design the brand and some creative pieces for a fictional product. There was a choice of categories ranging from fashion website to a soft drink. I chose a soft drink and designed a Mexican themed hibiscus water drink named Sonrisa (The Spanish word for smile).

I made a pop up book as my creative as every time you turn the page you get a new 'wow' feeling. You would collect coupons on each promotional bottle of Sonrisa to send off for your own copy of the book.

I made it to the final 10 and there was an awards ceremony back in November where I had the fortune to come in second place.

The blog resurrection

It's been far too long since I last posted on here, and with the New Year almost here it seems like a pretty good time.

I have, however, been busy making a website for myself emilywhiteside.co.uk where you can view some of my (more up to date) work.

I am now in my second graphics year at Reading University and have completed the first term. Along with History and Theory essays and presentations the projects I have done this term include; type setting a book, designing a set of recipe cards and information (below), information and app design for a bus timetable (below) and designing a typeface (below).

Dr. No Film Poster

The brief was to design a poster for the 50th anniversary of a film. I did the first James Bond film, Dr. No. I wanted to stay away from the iconic designs that are already out there so picked up on the repeating song, Under the Mango Tree, combined with the mechanical hand of evil Dr. No. I looked at the works of Saul Bass for inspiration for this design.

an invitation to the cinema

 Two tickets to see...
The second project from Reading University.
To design two flyers for Reading Film Theater.
The images and all the information was supplied and we had to design the hierarchy to make the information easy to navigate.

through the eye of a pin

   I love using pinhole cameras.
It seems like magic to me that they work.
These are some photos I took in my local woods potentially for the of pageants and picnics project.
